Solar Panel Recycling

Giving valuable materials another life.

Our solar-panel circularity programme explores how materials associated with end-of-life photovoltaic panels could be recovered, repurposed and returned to productive use.

Why This Matters

A growing waste stream needs a responsible solution.

As solar technology expands, more panels will eventually reach the end of their useful life. Without responsible recovery routes, valuable materials can be lost and unnecessary waste can be created.

Our programme considers material separation, downstream recovery and the potential for glass-derived silica in advanced materials. We welcome research and project partnerships; commercial panel collection and recycling services are not currently offered.

Recover. Reuse. Reimagine.

Exploring a path from end-of-life panels to useful resources.

These programme priorities guide assessment of panel types, separation methods and downstream uses. Technical routes depend on project requirements, partners, permits and validation.

01

Partnership Development

Identify suitable projects, asset owners and responsible recycling relationships.

02

Assessment Method

Develop procedures for documenting panel type, condition and suitable processing routes.

03

Deconstruction Trials

Evaluate safe methods for separating frames, glass, wiring and other components.

04

Recovery Routes

Confirm suitable downstream routes for each recoverable material stream.

05

Silica Research

Assess whether recovered glass-derived silica is suitable for advanced material development.

06

Programme Scale-Up

Assess the technical, operational and commercial requirements for a scalable recovery programme.

Material Recovery

More than one valuable resource.

Our resource-recovery programme considers the following material streams and their potential downstream uses.

Glass & Silica

Glass-rich material may support silica recovery and future advanced-material development.

Aluminium

Frames and structural components can be separated for established metal-recycling routes.

Copper & Wiring

Electrical conductors can be recovered and directed to appropriate recycling partners.

Other Components

Remaining parts are assessed for reuse, recycling or controlled downstream processing.

Intended Outcomes

Keeping resources in productive use for longer.

Our objectives are to identify useful recovery routes, reduce avoidable disposal and build responsible regional supply relationships. Programme evaluation will track material yields, processing requirements and environmental performance.
